This past September, Ms. Minnie Dennard and her family received a brand new home from Habitat for Humanity which was made possible by the Columbia Metropolitan Dream Home and its sponsors.
Over the past six years, Robert Haas has custom-built six Columbia Metropolitan Dream Homes and opened them for public tour. Thanks to support from Coldwell Banker United, Realtors® and Time Warner Cable, the Dream Home tours have been enormously successful for everyone involved. Each year these homes were built, designed, outfitted and decorated by the best suppliers and designers in town. The public paid a small fee to come and explore all that Columbia has to offer in new home design, while all of the proceeds benefited Habitat for Humanity. With the 2004 Dream Home, the sponsors reached our goal of raising more than $50,000, enabling us to finance the building of a Habitat for Humanity house for a family in need. What a joy it has been to see our efforts pay off! Thanks to all of our readers who came to our Dream Homes in the past. It is because of your donations that "Ms. Minnie" and her family have a safe place to live.
The 2006 Columbia Metropolitan Dream Home will open its doors to the public on March 10, and this year we are thrilled to begin a new journey with a brand new charity – the American Cancer Society. Proceeds from the 2006 Dream Home tours will go toward breast cancer research to raise awareness and hopefully save lives, and we hope that our efforts can make a big difference in fighting this disease. In this issue, our readers can get a sneak peek into this year's home, once again built by Robert Haas. The house is located in a fairly new neighborhood, The Preserve, located just behind the Shops at Woodhill on Garner's Ferry Road. The 4,450-square-foot home has an inviting floor plan and each room's interior design is outstanding. Those who visit will be very glad that they did. Come out and tour this year's Dream Home from March 10 through 26. And don't miss the "Cash and Carry" sale – a new addition this year. On the final day of the showing, many of the items in the home will be marked down in order to sell them quickly.
This special home issue of Columbia Metropolitan also gives you a new edition of Carolina Home, specially inserted for our readers. This issue offers everything from a beautiful home showcase to two "before" and "after" landscape redesigns that were featured on the Turner South show, "Bushwhacked." Flip through this section and get ideas on how to improve your home or make your project easier with the help of local vendors.
I hope you enjoy the issue, and I hope to see you at the Dream Home in the next few weeks.
Sincerely,
