the Midlands, thousands of community and health-minded people will join
forces in support of the American Heart Association's life-saving
research and education programs by participating in the 2008 START!
Midlands Heart Walk. Last year in the Midlands, this event raised over
$580,000 that goes directly to the American Heart Association's impact
goal of reducing cardiovascular disease, stroke and risk by 25% by
2010. This money is used to help fund research grants (that in South
Carolina alone totaled more than $2.45 million) and support efforts to
strengthen the chain of survival. It is a non-competitive event
appropriate for people of every level.
